Melodic folk metal meets dsbm sensibilities. Maybe a hint of prog? What exactly is this thing?
I can certainly see some parallels here with Mesarthrim and Maudlin of the Well. Avant-metal, in order to avoid the dorky excesses of prog while still being kind of proggy is a thing I can dig.
Emotional and symphonic hooks abound, and while there is ostensibly a story in here, you're not being beaten over the head with it, but instead allowed to actually enjoy the music for what it is.
If I had any complaint about the album, it's that it's a tiny bit too long, and a couple of the later songs feel a little too much like filler.
